What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is an ancient medical practice that has been in existence for over 2,500 years.  Its foundation is based on channel theory, which can briefly be described in the following quote from a classic Chinese medical text, "it is by virtue of the twelve channels that human life exists, that disease arises, that human beings can be treated and illness cured."

Thin, sterile needles are placed at specific points along channels in order to create balance within the body, treat pathologies and prevent illness.  Acupuncture is an effective and generally painless procedure.  You can expect your first appointment to last about an hour and subsequent visits 30-45 minutes.

All patients are assessed from a Chinese Medicine perspective and treated based on their individual symptoms and underlying causes of imbalance.  In general, 5-10 sessions are recommended to encourage the body to heal.  Once a patient reaches their health goals, maintenance sessions are suggested.  Additional treatments may be necessary for more chronic conditions.

Acupuncture is used to treat a wide variety of conditions including:

· Back and neck pain
· Headache and migraine
· Menstrual problems
· PMS and Irregular periods
· Allergies and asthma
· Acute cold and flu
· Digestive problems
· Anxiety and Depression
· Insomnia

· High blood pressure
· Stress
· Carpal tunnel syndrome
· Sciatica
· Fibromyalgia
